Succulent Dish Making Workshop

A perfect way to bring (and prolong) life to your space is to grow some plants in it.  Don’t worry if you’re too busy with work or complaining of having a small area because succulents are the ideal greenery for you. A lush afternoon of creating a dish garden of succulents was conducted by one of the best green thumbs, Wilson Angel of Compact Greenery last April 14, 2018 in Cath Kidston Active Fun, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The workshop wouldn’t be made possible if it weren’t for Memory Crafters and Cath Kidston Philippines who organized and tackled the online society’s interest in succulents.

Five lucky winners were chosen and got free workshop passes inclusive of plants and materials used. An active member of the Cactus and Succulent Society of the Philippines, Inc. and with a truly evergreen skill, Wilson Angel is also a multi-awarded dish garden designer and recently headed a dish gardening competition during Hortikultura 2018. Memory Crafters organizes craft workshops with their pool of talented and productive instructors. The passionate group provides the most interesting workshops worth signing up for. You might even discover a new hobby that you’d get hooked on! So to keep you posted on their next workshop schedule, be sure to follow them on Facebook.

Not only that succulent plants beautify every corner, they’re also good for our health. Both humans and plants are dependent on each other.  We release the carbon dioxide they need to absorb while we take in the oxygen they give off. They also make the air fresher to breathe and remove toxins. Can you imagine a house without plants? It would even be inappropriate to call it a home! Succulents are also low-maintenance since they can survive indoors with few water intake. Overwatering can even cause their death. They originally live in dry and areas such as deserts so having a high temperature and little rain allows them to collect and store more water in order to survive.

Tips on taking care of succulents:

  1. Pick a container with drainage or hole at the bottom so the water wouldn’t be stuck or completely get soaked in the soil causing the rotting of the plant.
  2. Use a special soil for succulents and cacti because regular soil is too heavy and holds too much moisture.
  3. Water until a little bit is coming out from the bottom of the pot. Make sure the soil is completely dry before watering them again.
  4. They need at least 6 hours of sunlight daily, so it’s better to place them beside the window.
  5. To make them more lush, it’s advisable to fertilize. They need those macro and micro nutrients, too.

One delightful fact about these amazing pals is that they help us improve our concentration. How about placing them in your workspace? It’s an effective technique to be more productive and bust the stress out. To breathe is to believe. They’re great mood boosters and can help in reducing sadness and depression. So why not cheer up a lonely friend with succulents??

  1. The first and last succulent I had was a giveaway from a birthday party I attended back then. I took it to the office where I can take care of it. I always leave it by the office window before going home so that tomorrow morning, it’ll have the sunlight that it needed. I water it once a week too as what was instructed in the guide given with the succulent. I had it for months and then it died. Huhuhu. I was not able to fertilize it though, based on your tips. Maybe I should buy one soon.

  2. Very interesting and informative. What I love about succulents is how low maintenance they are. I think I’m going to bookmark this and try it out.
